Thanks for commenting! :)

Anonymous - Oh, I agree about the necklace, but I always just chalked that up to my own real-life annoyance at people who wear their significant others' name. I would love it if Rachel just stuck to her R or her star and called it a day. And thank you so much!

Jen - Thank you! I agree completely. There's little coincidence that Rachel sang "Firework" after she embraced her independence. She's so much truer to her original character when she's not dating Finn - which the writers completely could have avoided, but instead they wrote the couple as rife with insecurities and communication issues. Ugh.

Oh, and that scene in "Mattress" is superb. I know a lot of hubbub is made over Lea Michele's crazy dramatic facial expressions, but she seriously has the most nuanced expressions as well. I went through so many caps for this study where her face showed hurt yet hope at the same time. Truly fantastic.

Thanks for the comment!DR SHE BLOGGOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04971801439459541992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1583232612899692330.post-41826072678865392922011-03-27T22:46:32.230-04:002011-03-27T22:46:32.230-04:00Again, amazing text. She isn’t an easy girl, but that is what makes her special. Losing this essence would be terrible for the character. That is why the first half of the second season made me a little mad. I really dislike that submissive/sad girl who was dating Finn. I know Rachel is insecure, but I remember that she never took any bullshit from anyone. Not even from Finn, when she was trying to win him. I think the “Finn necklace” thing, that “Anonymous” wisely pointed out, shows the exact problem in this relationship. In those episodes, she kind of stopped being Rachel and became Finn’s girlfriend. I think that is a very dangerous thing to do with your main character. I wish this had been planned, but I’m not sure the Glee writers are able to write such a complex history.

Beyond that, the scene from the photo of the post is one of my favorites of the first season. Such a small moment showed so much about the character. I really can’t believe the people who don’t understand Rachel a little bit after this moment. One of the best acting performances of Lea Michele on Glee.Jenhttp://haveyoumet.tumblr.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1583232612899692330.post-65842827382675391282011-03-27T21:28:04.492-04:002011-03-27T21:28:04.492-04:00Just one minor point I'd like to add, because ...Just one minor point I'd like to add, because I don't think you've mentioned it. For me personally, possibly the most infuriating thing about the first half of season two was the increasing prevalence of Rachel's "Finn" necklace. I know I'm nitpicking and I rarely see the necklace mentioned out of "oh isn't that CUTE" etc. *gags* To me there is something disturbing about literally labeling her body(a collar) with her boyfriend's name. Her other necklaces are usually "R" or a star, something that defines her, not him.

These character studies of yours are just fascinating and genius.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1583232612899692330.post-16703976173218513592011-03-27T21:00:49.109-04:002011-03-27T21:00:49.109-04:00I have never thought about Rachel's relationsh...I have never thought about Rachel's relationship with the mirror.
